Some athletic shoes transcend their performance roots and become a cultural phenomenon. The Nike Air Max Plus, released in 1998, is one such shoe. This unique addition to the Air Max dynasty defined the era in which it debuted as well as those that followed.

The Air Max 98 took the dynamic new look of the Air Max 97 and turned up the volume. Keeping the full-length Max Air technology as the foundation, the aesthetic on the upper went from chill water-ripple to borderline seismic, creating another stand-out look for the legendary silhouette.

Like most Air Max's, the 98 was developed for runners (please don't actually run in these though) and focused heavily on an aggressive shape and lots of cushioning.
