Nike Sportswear plans to honor the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia region with its upcoming release of the “DMV” Nike Air Foamposite One in Holiday 2024.

They were also among the priciest athletic shoes of the time, retailing for $180 in their original form due to the shoes' expensive and complex manufacturing process. While the Foamposites never conquered the shoe world in the way Air Jordans or Air Force 1s did, they acquired a dedicated cult following of their own.

The Nike Foamposite One Was Not Designed for Penny Hardaway Eric Avar, the designer of the shoe, created it with Scottie Pippen in mind. This didn't pan out. The shoes fell into Penny's hands in a session during which he saw them in Avar's bag. The rest is sneaker history.

Penny was famously unimpressed with the options, but saw the Foamposite in a bag and insisted that that be the next pair of Penny Hardaway shoes. The Foamposite 1 had been intended for Pippen, but he turned them down so they were given to Penny. But Penny wasn't actually the first player to debut them on court.
