Clearly inspired by trail running shoes, the Adidas is lightweight, agile, and pretty soft underfoot. But there's a noticeable dose of support, and the top-of-the-ankle height provided a little extra waterproofing for creek crossings and protection for scrambling rocky slopes.

OK, these are most definitely waterproof. No doubt. I hose off after every hike so I can wear them in the house to take them off. They are firm but flex easily enough for 30-degree slopes.
